⛰ Hokkaido Backcountry

Terms

Please read this before using Hokkaido Backcountry. By using the site you agree to these terms.

Assumption of risk

The backcountry is unmanaged avalanche terrain and is inherently dangerous; serious injury or death can occur. You travel on your own judgement and accept all risks arising from your decisions.

A planning aid — not advice, not a guarantee

All routes, terrain, slope, aspect, wind and danger displays here are planning aids — not recommendations and not a go/no-go decision. The data contains error and may differ from real conditions. Field observations and the day’s official avalanche bulletin always take precedence.

No warranty · limitation of liability

The site is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operators are not liable for any damages arising from use of, or inability to use, this site.

Third-party data & intellectual property

Terrain is from the GSI (Geospatial Information Authority of Japan) DEM; weather/snow from Open-Meteo; some foundation routes derive from Hokkaido Wilds (CC BY-SA 4.0, attributed and shared alike). We do not republish proprietary routes (e.g. YAMAP). All rights remain with their owners.

License

The site’s code and its route content / derived data are released under CC BY-SA 4.0. Reuse requires attribution and ShareAlike under the same license.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan; disputes relating to the site are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Japan.

These are general terms, not legal advice. For avalanche safety, always rely on proper training, gear and the day’s official bulletin.
